Koel - again

For more bird photos visit the Bird Photography Weekly.

The Common Koel that I posted about last week is still around. This morning he sat in the pine tree next door. I thought it was worth another post since this time I was able to record both the coo-ee part of his call and also the frantic shrieking at the end. Fortunately he hasn't been calling right outside my window at night again.

  2. G'day Mick,
Yes, trying to sleep with that outside the window would be difficult. Trev, my cat sits by my elbow in the mornings as I read the blogs - he nearly fell off the desk this morning!

Gouldiae, your tale about your cat gave me a really good laugh! Hope it hasn't put him off the computer for ever!

  5. Thank you, Duncan. I wish I knew more about the calls. Early this morning - at first light - the bird called again and seemed to be answered by one over in the bush but the call was slightly higher pitched. I wonder if it was a female or a juvenile?

  7. Hi Tabib, my bird book says the
Common Koel is the Eudynamis solopacea - so maybe we are talking about the same bird.

  8. Hey that really is a beautiful sound especially for a Tasmanian who can turn it of with the click of the mouse. Maybe you could throw your mouse at it. They are fruit eaters I beleive so at least the mouse won't get eaten.
